How to be a better leader in your start-up business
Why do people start their own business? It’s not easy, and the rewards can come and go. So why do it?

For some, the predictability of a 9 to 5 life doesn’t drive them – they feel unsatisfied and need something more. Perhaps they want more control, or they want to work for themselves. Both feed into the how small business owners do it all – accountant, data entry, HR manager, boss.

As a business grows, the one-man shop evolves into something larger, requiring additional staff, and a leader. The do-it-on-my-own entrepreneur now needs leadership skills, like delegation, communication, motivation, feedback, responsibility, and more.

Reading and learning about these leadership skills can help you get there, but for a more comprehensive take, consider an online MBA program that will up your business knowledge while also teaching you the leadership skills you need to maintain and grow a successful company. Online programs provide flexibility, and you can often go at your own pace.

You can also give back to the business community by contributing to articles like this content from Forbes, where leaders in the field impart their advice and distinction between what makes a manager and what makes a leader.

Getting more to the day-to-day aspect of being a leader, putting together a team that works well together is key. Assessing interviewee working styles as well as the company’s own culture is important to make sure you don’t try to force a team with personalities that don’t match properly.

Your leadership skills are fundamental to growing your business. Taking the time to learn and give back will make the difference between your work-life happiness.
